Time of Use Rate

Smart usage, big savings. On the hottest days of the summer – peak days – we’ll ask you to conserve energy from 3-7 p.m (Monday through Friday only, excluding holidays). You will have a peak service charge during those hours. This rate is ideal for super energy savers who want to be rewarded with lower electric bills.

Ways to Save Money

To benefit from time-of-use rates, members must limit energy used during on-peak hours — Monday through Friday during June, July and August. Consider:

  • Installing a programmable thermostat on your air conditioning system. A programmable thermostat can be set to pre-cool your home and avoid or reduce on-peak usage hours. Closing the drapes on south- and west-facing windows will help keep the house cool.

  • Installing a timer on your water heater tank. Set it to turn off during on-peak hours.

  • Postponing household chores. Operating your washing machine, clothes dryer and dishwasher during off-peak hours will save money. Using a clothesline to dry clothes can help you save even more.

  • Don’t heat up the kitchen. Instead of using your electric range and oven during on-peak periods, cook meals with money-saving alternatives like in a Crock-Pot, microwave or toaster oven or on an outdoor grill.
