The Importance of the OEC Solar Garden
OEC’s Solar Garden, an innovative new approach to providing solar power to our membership, is the first of its kind in Oklahoma. Each member can now benefit from renewable energy without the significant capital investment and upkeep required to maintain solar panels on their individual properties — and without being required to pay a hefty, per panel subscription fee.
Containing 950 solar panels and generating up to 250 kilowatts (enough to fully power a neighborhood of 30-40 homes), the Solar Garden allows OEC and Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC, OEC’s wholesale power provider) to expand our already impressive renewables portfolio — roughly 30 percent of the power WFEC generates each month comes from renewable sources.
The power generated from the Solar Garden, as well as the 40-acre Solar Farm located near Tuttle, feeds into WFEC’s transmission lines and our distribution lines to help power our members’ homes and businesses.
OEC will continue to stay at the forefront of technological advancements as they become relevant and cost effective so our members can reap the benefits.
