Electrical Service Information

New Construction
Establishing an account where service has not previously existed requires a staking appointment. During this appointment, the member is required to meet with OEC personnel at the property to determine how the service will be built and what fees may be required to build the job. An appointment can be scheduled by either calling or visiting our office. Please be prepared to provide the account information listed below and allow approximately 10 working days from the appointment for the service to be built.

Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account

To help the government fight identity theft of our members, and to protect the identity of our members, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. Electric Utility Companies have been identified as falling within the covered institutions of this law.

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.

Placing an Existing Account in Your Name
Placing an existing account in your name requires either calling or visiting our office. This can be done between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and must be done at least one working day prior to the needed date. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
  • Service address
  • Landlord/Previous owner's name
  • Account information including: name, mailing address, phone numbers, employment information, and at least three references
Deposit & Connection Fees
Security deposits are calculated by summing the two peak revenue months during the previous 13 months for the service location. OEC will waive deposits for consumers who have previously established a good payment history with the cooperative or who have a utility credit score within a range considered to be a good credit risk. Credit scores are obtained from a national credit index specifically designed for utility use.
Each new account is charged a $25 connect fee payable on the first bill, as well as a $5 membership fee for new members. Soon after the account is connected, an application is sent acknowledging the service request along with the Cooperative By-laws. The application must be signed and returned to OEC.
Continuance of service is contingent upon payment of the deposit and fees.
As a member you should begin receiving our monthly newsletter, The OEC News. This newsletter contains interesting and important information regarding OEC and its membership.
Each August, all members receive an invitation to the OEC Annual Meeting. They will also receive an invitation once every three years to attend a district meeting when board elections occur in their district. During these meetings, important information is disbursed and members exercise their right to make decisions regarding the Cooperative.
